Wildlands recently partnered with Col’Cacchio Pizzeria in their Celebrity Chef Series as the official beneficiary for this initiative in 2011. The third annual Col’Cacchio pizzeria Celebrity Chef Series ran from May until the end of August, and featured an extremely talented line-up of chefs:
These top chefs create one pizza masterpiece which was then added to the menu on a monthly basis over the 4 month period. The Col’Cacchio Restaurant chain then donated R5 for every celebrity pizza sold, while Peroni donated R1 for every Peroni bought over the period. Overall the gourmet pizza making campaign raised an awesome R227 000!
“All the chefs were down to earth, positive and excited about being a part of this charitable concept” commented the
Strategic Manager for Green-preneurship at Wildlands, Charmaine Veldman. “Col’Cacchio gave us free rein to invest this money into whichever project we felt would benefit the most, and we have decided to invest this donation into the Trees for Life project in the Western Cape,” said Charmaine. This project involves “tree-preneurs” from underprivileged communities, who are shown how to plant and grow indigenous trees from seedlings and care for them until they reach a certain height. The trees are then traded back to Wildlands for items such as food, clothes, bicycles, building materials, school fees, university fees and support. Wildlands then plant the trees back into under-greened communities or forest restoration projects. To date the programme has developed 3500 tree-preneurs across 23 communities. “Col’Cacchio were passionate about this project and Wildlands from the start, and it was such a pleasure partnering with such an efficient, giving organisation. Thank you Col’Cacchio!”
Sponsors included Peroni, Rialto, Parmalat, Bonitas, Food Store, Tukulu and Obikwa wines. Fans of this year’s delicious celebrity pizza’s can continue to enjoy a couple of the gourmet creations at Col’Cacchio as they have been added to their menu.
