SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER, MARINE PROTECTED AREAS

WILDTRUST is partnering with The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), to promote marine conservation and effective management and is recruiting a candidate to be seconded to the DFFE to provide technical and process management for the management of Marine
Protected Areas.

Key Performance Areas: This role involves supporting the DFFE Environmental Control Officer in effective Marine Protected Area (MPA) management and implementation. To assist in the development of technical reports, monitoring, and evaluating project activities including the expansion of MPA processes. The position entails providing technical support for stakeholder engagement,
training, and capacity-building activities, and identifying key community and industry stakeholders for public consultations. The individual will also be required to perform administrative and related functions.

Requirements: A 4-year degree in Marine Biology, Botany, Entomology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Biological Sciences, or Natural Science (NQF7) or relevant equivalent with 2-3 years of relevant experience. Applicants are required to possess a comprehensive
understanding of scientific, conservation, and sustainable use principles pertaining to marine biodiversity management, as well as of relevant environmental and biodiversity legislation. They should demonstrate knowledge and insight into marine environmental management issues. Furthermore, candidates are expected to have experience in project and contract management;
exhibit relevant aptitude and interest in coordinating, facilitating, and engaging with stakeholders especially in the context of marine-related issues. A valid driver’s licence and willingness to work away from home is essential.
