WILDOCEANS Programme: WILDTRUST (https://wildtrust.co.za/) is a South African not-for-profit, public benefit, non-governmental organisation, with a vision of “a thriving and resilient world” and implements its work through 2 programmes: WILDLANDS (focused on terrestrial systems) and WILDOCEANS (focused on marine systems). The primary interlinked goals of
WILDOCEANS to deliver impact towards a thriving resilient world are to: 1) protect and restore marine and coastal biodiversity, and 2) build resilience for coastal communities. Strategic cross-cutting elements to enhance sustainability and impact, underpin our work: future leader development, youth support, science and knowledge generation, support to decision-makers and
management authorities, coastal community support, ocean awareness and communication, and advocacy and campaigning.
WILDOCEANS is looking for a Project Co-ordinator for their Sustainable Financing Project, an initiative to identify and develop sustainable financing solutions for marine protected areas (marine protected areas) at both site-specific (iSimangaliso and uThukela MPAs) as well as a national level, to support South Africa’s contribution to the global 30×30 target (UN Global
Biodiversity Framework Target 3). This WILDOCEANS Sustainable Financing Project is funded jointly by the Blue Action Fund and the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA). We are looking for an experienced dynamic Project Coordinator, who is passionate about increasing ocean protection and building social resilience for communities, has strong leadership and people
management/relationship skills, and excellent administrative, technical, communication, coordination and reporting skills. The candidate must be responsible, proactive, individually accountable and able to juggle priorities.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The successful candidate will report to the Strategic Ocean Lead and support WILDOCEANS Senior Manager in the execution of the sustainable financing aspects of their projects, responsibilities and duties will include:
• Convening and supporting activities of a Sustainable Financing Reference Group
• Organizing and participating in relevant meetings and workshops
• Preparing progress reports, policy briefs, workshop reports
• Interacting and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including government and MPA management officials
• Supervising staff, such as assistants and interns
• Project budget management and financial reporting
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of an Honours Degree in marine sciences or a related environmental or social science field and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience is required.
• A valid driver’s licence essential.
• Candidate must have excellent writing skills, and be a good communicator, proactive, organised, individually accountable, and able to work under pressure and balance priorities.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
