WILDOCEANS Programme: WILDTRUST (https://wildtrust.co.za/) is a South African not-for-profit, public benefit, non-governmental organisation, with a vision of “a thriving and resilient world” and implements its work through 2 programmes:
WILDLANDS (focused on terrestrial systems) and WILDOCEANS (focused on marine systems). The primary interlinked goals of WILDOCEANS to deliver impact towards a thriving resilient world are to: 1) protect and restore marine and coastal biodiversity, and 2) build resilience for coastal communities. Strategic cross-cutting elements to enhance sustainability and impact, underpin
our work: future leader development, youth support, science and knowledge generation, support to decision-makers and management authorities, coastal community support, ocean awareness and communication, and advocacy and campaigning.
We are looking for a WO Future Leaders Initiative Manager to support the implementation of youth initiatives within the WILDOCEANS Programme, and to provide strategic leadership for the development and growth of youth initiatives, and enhancement of their geographies, scope and impact.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The candidate will report to the Strategic Ocean Lead, and responsibilities and duties will include:
• Development and implementation of a youth leadership support strategy, management of the Oceans Stewards programme (and supervision of the Ocean Stewards Co-ordinator and Assistant).
• Support across projects for youth initiatives.
• Management of WILDOCEANS staff, including youth initiative Co-ordinators, including for the Ocean Stewards Programme, Policy and Strategy, as well as associated Assistants and Interns.
• Support for WILDOCEANS associated and supported youth movements (such as Youth 4 MPAs, Justice 4 Jaws).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Master’s degree or equivalent level qualification in marine environmental/biodiversity science, policy and/or advocacy
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in biodiversity/community conservation/environmental project management, implementation and/or strategy.
• Strong leadership, communication, people management/relationship and networking skills are essential
• Excellent administrative, financial, and reporting capabilities
• Driver’s licence.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English (isiZulu will be beneficial).
• Microsoft office software, especially Excel is essential.
