Dear WILD Supporter,
WILDLANDS has been a beneficiary of the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) for a number of years and with their help have raised millions of rands through the support of both local and international runners.
With our “new normal” due to Covid-19, we have all been pushed indoors and are required to distance ourselves socially. This has resulted in the iconic Comrades Marathon race being cancelled, leaving thousands of runners with months of training behind them and not being able to put it to the test.
As a way of bringing the running community together to relive the spirit of the Ultimate Human Race, the CMA has come up with an innovative solution. They have developed a concept in support of the running community called “Race the Legends” which is a VIRTUAL RACE that will take place on Sunday, 14 June. Equally, entrants can ‘compete’ in previous Comrades Marathons such as the first race in 1921, the year that the legendary Bruce Fordyce ran his fastest time or when the legend Wally Hayward first broke the time of six hours. Participants will receive a unique set of results with interesting statistics comparing their performances to the many legends of the Comrades Marathon.
The “Race the Comrades Legends” will provide a platform to engage with other runners throughout South Africa and the rest of the world, as well as an opportunity for family members to participate safely and conveniently in the action, all within the constraints of the South African government’s National Lockdown regulations.
If you participate you will earn a “Race the Legends” medal to remember your participation in this unique time in the history of the Comrades Marathon.

- 21.1km Half Marathon
- 45km Half Comrades
- 90km Race the Legends

Cost – R150 for South African runners and $25 for foreign athletes.
Entry is free of charge to all runners who have entered the 2020 Comrades Marathon, however if it is within your means to make a voluntary donation to WILDLANDS of R150 we would so appreciate it.
Once registration is complete, runners will receive all vital race information and rules. The programme will include full integration of all popular fitness apps, including Strava and Endomondo for direct upload; as well as Garmin, Polar and Suunto.
